Congratulations to NewsGator customer Nuclear Regulatory Commission on winning the Merit Award of Excellence in Driving Government Engagement!

By Eric Sauve, November 03, 2010

This afternoon at the Ronald Reagan Building, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) was recognized as a leader in using open and collaborative approaches to drive Government efficiency.  The Merit awards focus on the best in open and engaging Government – and the ‘Knowledge Center’, the NRC’s internal knowledge management and collaboration initiative, won this year’s award.

Chosen by an advisory group of Federal IT executives, this award aims to stimulate next-generation Government programs that leverage openness, collaboration, and Gov 2.0 concepts in order to make Government work better.  In the last several years, there has been an increased focus on such projects as the success in commercial industries has inspired Government to use similar approaches.

Below is a brief description of the winning project:
Looking for a way to share technical expertise from one generation of the workforce to the next, the NRC started rolling out an enterprise social networking tool that allowed users to collaborate and share information. Over the past three years, NRC users have been able to utilize the platform to blog, share video, collaborate on documents, and professionally network. One quarter of NRC employees have been using the tool, where they have compiled over 60G of video interviews to preserve the knowledge of their retiring workers. Through successful management of this information, the NRC has been able to successfully bring the experiences of their former employees to their new employees.

A big shout out to the NewsGator team for helping to make this Gov 2.0 success story happen and to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for leading the charge internally. There are likely many more award-winning organizations within our customer roster – don’t be shy - drop us a line as we’d love to promote your success story!
