Great Eight Countdown -- #1!

By Brian Kellner, May 11, 2010

Microsoft launches SharePoint 2010 on May 12. And NewsGator has been counting down the weeks with a rundown of SharePoint's new features...plus the "great eight" ways that NewsGator Social Sites goes above and beyond SharePoint 2010 to make your organization truly social. (Truth be told, we've been making SharePoint organizations social for years. Ask 2.1 million NewsGator Social Sites users.)

And the #1 way NewsGator Social Sites 2010 goes above and beyond SharePoint 2010...?

Microblogging
In SharePoint 2010, microblogging works like this: User A writes on user B’s profile page (noteboard), user B sees this and goes to write on user A’s profile page to answer.  It is quite similar to how much of Facebook communication used to happen by writing on each other’s walls a couple years ago.

With Social Sites 2010, the microblogging capability is extremely rich.  Targeted messages to users and groups let you call attention to important points and questions.  "Like" and comment make it easy to react from anywhere including email replies, desktop client and mobile clients such as iPhone, iPad, and BlackBerry. Hashtags, search and intelligent filters let you easily see the most important updates.  Image, video and file upload along with linking of SharePoint content make it easy to point others to important resources and have a conversation about them.  And the integration with the overall activity stream and its daily email digest mean you’ll always have the complete view of the most important conversations. Versatility like this lets users and organizations maximize the business value of microblogging.
