SenseArray Filtering Gives You Stories Based on Your Preferences

By Leland Rucker, May 22, 2008

Beginning today, NewsGator has enhanced its ability to offer users great stories from feeds that they haven’t seen. We have partnered with Uprizer Labs, whose SenseArray collaborative filtering software is able to provide recommended stories based on users’ own preferences.

The only real visible change you will see is when you open NewsGator’s Online Reader. The home page will now show you some recommended feeds. There is a thumbs-up/thumbs-down icon in front of each story. So go through the list and indicate which ones you like and which you don’t. By doing this regularly, you “teach” the software; the more you train it, the better it gets. (One caveat here: don’t train it 50 times in ten minutes because it will quickly run out of new suggestions.)

Otherwise, any time you clip, tag or email a story to someone else, SenseArray keeps track of your action and uses the information to suggest more stories.

We will be fine-tuning this feature as it rolls out, so we’re calling this a beta release. Direct questions and suggestions to the NewsGator forums.
