Beat Consumer Blues with RSS

By Leland Rucker, July 23, 2007

It’s not easy being a consumer.

Faced with a dizzying array of choices for almost everything we buy, people today more than ever need consistent and reliable information about products and goods they might buy. What product will give you the most for your money? Which goods should you avoid for lack of quality workmanship? How do you find your way through this buying morass?

Using RSS can help answer those questions. There have always been websites that offer consumer information and advice. But the only way to access that data was to return to the websites again and again for updates. Consumer Reports magazine is a good example. CR has a solid track record helping consumers find the products they want and are of high quality. Now the magazine has added RSS feeds in several different categories, all which can be customized for your own use.

Go to the CR RSS page and follow the directions for making your own custom feed in categories like cars, safety, babies, home, shopping and electronics. So if you’re looking for a used car or the latest on the iPhone, your search should become easier.

The federal government continues to add feeds to help consumers, the latest being Health News From Pueblo, a site with information and news about health and medicine issues, and Consumer News From Pueblo, which consolidates consumer information for users. Money-saving tips and news about fraud and money scams can be followed by subscribing to the Money News From Pueblo feed.
