Welcome!

By Leland Rucker, May 19, 2005

As NewsGator's CEO, I'm happy to inaugurate our new corporate blog, NewsGator Daily (catchy title, no?).

As I've mentioned on a parallel blog site, this blog differs from those of some of our confreres in that we're going to have multiple authors contribute, embedded directly on our site.

Our intent here is to talk about what we're up to and share information and insights we're gaining along the way, with the general objective of promoting the exploding RSS industry.

In terms of what we're up to, the short answer is 'a lot'.  This week we announced that Nick Bradbury and FeedDemon have joined the family. (Greg, Brad, Nick, and JB on the topic...)  Denise Garcia will also talk about a hyper-cool jobs feature we've implemented. The first phase of our joint Enterprise RSS effort with Factiva went live today...

And, we're just about to launch two product betas and one release...

Oh, and we're hiring, big-time.  Developers, strategic account management, and more; jobs@newsgator.com ...

Insights?  Here's one point of view on the atomization of media brands.  This piece on ontology-overrated by Clary Shirky is one of the top-linked posts in our system, from which:

What I think is coming instead are much more organic ways of organizing information than our current categorization schemes allow, based on two units -- the link, which can point to anything, and the tag, which is a way of attaching labels to links. The strategy of tagging -- free-form labeling, without regard to categorical constraints -- seems like a recipe for disaster, but as the Web has shown us, you can extract a surprising amount of value from big messy data sets.

Leland Rucker, our editor, has a terrific editor's choice feed, wandering the sometimes-obscure tendrils of the web daily, which I highly recommend. Where else would you concatenate: Black Eyed Peas on Stones’ Mausoleum Tour, San Fernando Porn Industry Blogging About It, and The Coming Wave of Spam, Virus From China?

And, in honor of the day,  Brad on the Star Wars family of products...

As one of our folks observed today, it's nice to be in a space where we're overwhelmed by demand...

We hope you'll jump in on the dialogue.
