Unified Communications Platform: Using Microsoft Lync with Social Sites 2010

Since NewsGator Social Sites 2010 enables you to see your colleagues’ online presence status, you can easily launch on-the-fly IM, audio, and video conversations with available co-workers. This is one example of how Microsoft and NewsGator are transforming every communication into an interaction that is more collaborative, engaging, and accessible from anywhere.

This Lync integration spans beyond presence and enables knowledge workers to conduct seamless bi-directional conversations spanning Lync and their Social Sites activity streams via IM notification alerts. For example, when you post any type of event in your Social Sites 2010 activity stream (e.g., a microblog, question, idea or video), the receiving parties (e.g., an @ targeted user, follower or community owner) are notified via a Lync IM window, enabling you and notified parties to have a real-time IM conversation. The dialogue unfolds not only in your Lync client, but in your Social Sties activity stream as well, where it is captured and stored for later retrieval.

In addition, NewsGator makes it easy for you to upload a recorded Lync video directly into the Social Sites 2010 Video Stream asset library – letting you share video meetings and training sessions with your colleagues for them to view, like, comment, tag, and share those videos in the activity stream.

The goal of the Lync integration is to make communication and collaboration within your organization more natural, spontaneous, and efficient than ever, resulting in significantly improved business performance through truly unified communication.
